Midsegments

Another slight change in plans- no benchmark retakes today, we will retake them next week.

First off, we got back our benchmarks from before Thanksgiving and went over them. We also got the solutions to the benchmark review from yesterday. Check them out here.

We then took a look at Midsegments, their properties, and some examples of benchmark 20 (to be taken next Thursday). The homework assignment is #39 page 290 #12-19 (all), 21, 22, 28, 29, 47-49 (all). We also have another grade report due, too.

Coming up:

  • Grade Report #3 due Thurs/Fri block (11/29-30)
  • Study Group on Friday after school
  • Chapter 4 Test on Monday, 12/3
  • Practice Final Thurs/Fri, 12/6-7
  • Benchmark Deadline Tuesday, Dec. 11
  • Final Exams: Wed. 13-Period 4, Fri. 14-Period 5 and 6

Posting for Points Question:

What is a midsegment. What are the two properties of a midsegment? Give an example of finding a midsegment or 3rd side within a triangle.

Proving Triangles are Congruent

Big day today in the world of triangles. We got our 5 congruency rules for proving triangles are congruent, which is what benchmarks 22 and 24 cover. SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, and HL allow us to prove two triangles are congruent. The notes have a more detailed description as well as examples. There are two assignments, #34 page 216 #7-17 (odd), 20, 22, 25, 33, 35, 42 and #35 page 223 #9-17 (odd), 18-20 (all).

Coming Up:

– Study group on Monday at lunch

– BM 18, 22, 24, and retakes for 14, 19, and 21 on Wednesday

Posting for Points Question:

Which congruency property is your favorite? Write a congruency statement (tri ABC = tri XYZ) and list which parts would be congruent to represent that congruency property? I have given an example below.

Congruency Statements

Today we just jumped right into our notes on 4.2 Congruency Statements. This is an important concept because when two objects are congruent, EVERYTHING about them in congruent. Here are the notes if you missed them. The assignment is HW: #33 p. 206 #10-28 (even) 42-56 (even). You can use Hotmath.com on the odd problems to help you with the evens.

Posting for Points Question:

Write a congruency statement for two shapes. Then list all the congruent parts.

Transformations

This quick topic covers our next 3 benchmarks, 15-17. Transformations are fun! We will take these benchmarks in 2 weeks since next week is full with tests. You can download the notes and practice benchmarks here. The homework is #25 Transformations WS (BM 15-17 Practice).

Coming Up:

  • BM 9-11, 13-14 on Monday (10/22)
  • Benchmark Exam on First block (10/23-24)
  • Chapter 3 Test on Second block (10/25-26)

Also, this weekend there will be a “Practice Chapter 3 Test” on Moodle. Make sure you take it before the real test at the end of the week!

Posting for Points Question:

What are the three types of transformations and what are their rules? Give an example of each using a point.

3.4 Proving Lines are Parallel

Here’s where our vocabulary becomes an important tool! Today we looked at the converse of all the statements about when lines are parallel and cut by a transversal. Here are the notes if you lost missed them. We only had 1 assignment, #21 page 153 #10-31(all). Be sure to draw all pictures and show your work! We also practice BM 13.

Coming Up: BM 7-13 on Monday, 10/15 (Practice BM 7, 8, 12, and 13 onMoodle)
