Midsegments

Another slight change in plans- no benchmark retakes today, we will retake them next week.

First off, we got back our benchmarks from before Thanksgiving and went over them. We also got the solutions to the benchmark review from yesterday. Check them out here.

We then took a look at Midsegments, their properties, and some examples of benchmark 20 (to be taken next Thursday). The homework assignment is #39 page 290 #12-19 (all), 21, 22, 28, 29, 47-49 (all). We also have another grade report due, too.

Coming up:

  • Grade Report #3 due Thurs/Fri block (11/29-30)
  • Study Group on Friday after school
  • Chapter 4 Test on Monday, 12/3
  • Practice Final Thurs/Fri, 12/6-7
  • Benchmark Deadline Tuesday, Dec. 11
  • Final Exams: Wed. 13-Period 4, Fri. 14-Period 5 and 6

Posting for Points Question:

What is a midsegment. What are the two properties of a midsegment? Give an example of finding a midsegment or 3rd side within a triangle.

Benchmark Review 2

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving. Due to my absence today, my plans for the last few weeks of the semester got seriously altered. No worries, we’ll get it done.

Today we worked on the Benchmark Review #2. This review covered a lot of the benchmarks we took last week before Thanksgiving. Performance wasn’t what I hoped, mostly due to tiny mistakes (like a ASA instead of AAS, solving for x and not plugging it back in, the last reason of a proof incorrect), so we will work on those. However, we only have 2 weeks left to figure it out!

Here’s the link to download.

Coming up:

Benchmarks 14, 18, 19, 20 (new one!), 21, 22, and 24 on Tuesday/Wednesday Block

Grade Report #3 due Thursday/Friday block

Chapter 4 Test on Monday, 12/3

Benchmark Wednesday

With Monday being block and Wednesday being a short day, it makes perfect sense to take Benchmarks today. So the new benchmarks, BM 18, BM 22, and BM 24, as well as retakes on BM 14, BM 19, and BM 21 took place today.

Coming Up:

– Grade Report #3 Due Thurs/Fri block (11/29-30)
– BM 18-24 (some new and some retakes) on Tues/Wed block (11/27-28)
– Ch. 4 Test Monday, 12/3
– Practice Final Thurs/Fri block (12/6-7)

Posting for points Question:

Which was the hardest benchmark of today’s group for you and why?

Review

With Wednesday’s big day for benchmarks, today we review a lot!

We took a look at all the benchmarks that we will take, from proving 2 lines are parallel (BM 14), to proving 2 triangles are congruent (BM 24). Here are the solutions to the two assignments from last week as well (EXCELLENT STUDYGUIDES!). #36 solutions and #37 solutions.

Coming up:

BM 14, 18, 19, 21, 22, and 24 on Wednesday, 11/21

More Congruent Triangles

We continued our congruent triangle study with more practice. Today’s handouts are excellent practice for our benchmarks, 22 and 24. We spent most of the class on these activities, so you can get them here. #36 Triangle Congruence WS and #37 4.3-4 WS.

Coming Up:

BM 14, 18-24 on Wednesday, 11/21

Proving Triangles are Congruent

Big day today in the world of triangles. We got our 5 congruency rules for proving triangles are congruent, which is what benchmarks 22 and 24 cover. SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, and HL allow us to prove two triangles are congruent. The notes have a more detailed description as well as examples. There are two assignments, #34 page 216 #7-17 (odd), 20, 22, 25, 33, 35, 42 and #35 page 223 #9-17 (odd), 18-20 (all).

Coming Up:

– Study group on Monday at lunch

– BM 18, 22, 24, and retakes for 14, 19, and 21 on Wednesday

Posting for Points Question:

Which congruency property is your favorite? Write a congruency statement (tri ABC = tri XYZ) and list which parts would be congruent to represent that congruency property? I have given an example below.
