Parallel and Perpendicular Lines

Our next two benchmarks, 7 and 8, are on writing equations of parallel and perpendicular lines. Here are the notes that we took in class. It’s pretty much the same as benchmark 6, except the slope for parallel lines are the same and opposite reciprocals for perpendicular lines.

We had 2 assignments, #14 Parallel and Perpendicular Worksheet and #15 1.6 and 1.7C WS. #14 was due by the end of class (unless you were absent!).

Coming Up: Benchmark 6 on Monday

Posting for Points Question:

Make up a slope for a line. Then find the slope of the line parallel and the slope of the line perpendicular.

SLOPE!

What a fun day we had today! Slope was the name of the game! And if that wasn’t enough, WRITING EQUATIONS OF LINE!! I thought the fun would never end. Here are some notes about finding the slope and writing the equations of a line (which is benchmark 6, by the way). The homework was from the book, #13 page 124 #13-51 (odd).

Coming up:

– BM 6 on Monday, 10/1

Posting for points question:

Pick 2 points of your own and write the equation of the line. Be sure to show your slope, each step, and your final answer. You might want to work out your sample before you type it in.

More Reasoning

On our short day today, we looked at more conditional statements, including the biconditional statement (if and only if). There was a fun little handout that we worked through, too. Not much else! The only homework is to bring your book next class.

Posting for Points Question:

What is the difference between inductive and deductive reasoning? Give an example of each.

Conditional Statments

We started off class with a review and retake of benchmarks 3 and 4. We then got back our Unit 1 Test. After that, we took a quick look at conditional statements. We will work more with conditional statements on Monday, so NO HOMEWORK!!

Posting for Points Question:

Write your own conditional statement and the converse. Then decide if they are true or false. If either of them is false, give a counterexample.

Day of Review

Sorry about this post, It’s dated correctly, but I’m actually writing it Friday. I really thought I posted our summary for Tuesday’s class. I bet you thought you did something but turned out you didn’t!!

I’m back! Man did we have a lot of homework to review!! We spent most of the period going over the assignments from last week (#9, 10, and 11), and also #12 from Monday. However, we did have time to take our next 2 benchmarks, #3 and #4 on Perimeter and Area. We will have time for the retakes on our second block.

Coming up: BM 3 and 4 retakes on the second block (20/21)

Posting for Points Question:

Reflection. This Friday ends our first 6 week grading period. While we are still early in the year, it will go by very fast. At the beginning of the blog, I asked for your goal for the year.Revisit your goaland share your progress.

1.6 and 1.7 Review

My first absence! I know you all missed me, but the show must go on! I want to thank all of you for being on your best behavior for the sub.

Today we did a bit of reviewing the angle pair relationships and area and perimeter. Here is a link to download assignment #12.

Coming up:

– BM 3-4 and retake BM 5 on the first block (18/19)

– Grade Report #1 due Monday 9/24

Posting for Points Question:

What are the formulas for the perimeter and area of the 4 shapes (rectangle, parallelogram, triangle, and circle) that are on our next benchmark?
