Parallel and Perpendicular Lines

Our next two benchmarks, 7 and 8, are on writing equations of parallel and perpendicular lines. Here are the notes that we took in class. It’s pretty much the same as benchmark 6, except the slope for parallel lines are the same and opposite reciprocals for perpendicular lines.

We had 2 assignments, #14 Parallel and Perpendicular Worksheet and #15 1.6 and 1.7C WS. #14 was due by the end of class (unless you were absent!).

Make up a slope for a line. Then find the slope of the line parallel and the slope of the line perpendicular.

    PARALLEL LINES TWO LINES THAT ARE COPLANAR AND DO NOT INTERSECT THE SYMBOL FOR THIS IS 11.

    y=1x+1 but through (2,2) y=4x+2 but through (0,3)
    m=1 m=1/6 (flip) =6
    (2)=1(1)+b 3=6(0)+b
    2=1+b 3=0+b

    y=1x+3 y=6x+3

    2=4(10)+b

    2=40+b

    b=20

    y=4x+20
